The wood wool production process
Wood is the main raw material for the production of wood wool. It is one of the natural elements that has existed on Earth for hundreds of millions of years.
KOWOOL wood wool is made from 100% natural material – spruce or pine. The entire production cycle, from the forest to our wood wool bundles, is natural, with no chemicals added. So you can be sure that it is pure wood.
1️⃣ Wood sourcing
The wood used in the production of KOWOOL wood wool fibers is sourced from sustainably managed forests. These forests are renewed and regenerated, and their use is regulated by relevant protection and development laws. The wood materials used in the production of the products are mainly obtained by thinning forests, and the process is regulated by sustainable management and ecological protection certificates.
2️⃣ Wood cleaning and preparation
Spruce and pine logs are mechanically debarked. They are then stored in dry conditions and dried. The logs are sorted into different product classes based on the quality of the wood.
3️⃣ Shredding into wood wool
To produce high-quality wood wool, the logs are taken to grater-like machines. There, the wood is "grated" into wood wool of the appropriate thickness and length.
For example, spruce wood wool will be lighter in color, with fine fibers 0.15 mm thick. It will be more suitable for gift and food packaging, as well as gardening.
Pine wood wool, on the other hand, is stiffer, with a reddish tone and a resinous aroma, with fibers up to 0.20 mm thick. It is suitable for insulation and transporting large items.
4️⃣ Packaging
The finished wood wool product is segmented, gently compressed and packaged according to different applications and packaging sizes. Even if you purchase a small package, you will be surprised by the volume properties of wood wool. 1 kg of wood wool corresponds to approximately 50 L of volume.
